This is a legal post from the Decatur Car Accident Lawyer.
Accidents happen everyday. Accidents happen every weekend, but some weekends are different than others. One such weekend is the Memorial Day weekend.
Already this weekend, two people have died in vehicle collisions. In addition, over 300 people have been injured in these accidents. But that is only part of the story. As of Saturday night, there were 1,263 crashes. Since Monday is the big day, let’s hope that these accident statistics stay low. Please be safe, don’t drink, watch for drunk drivers, wear your seat belts, and don’t stay out too late.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety estimates that there will be 15 fatalities and 696 injuries resulting from 1,972 crashes.
Last year the Georgia Department of Public Safety detailed 2,430 crashes resulting in 1,126 injuries and 16 deaths. Many of the accidents are solely due to the increased amount of traffic. Further, a lot people are in cities that they are not familiar with. That means that they make quick decisions that they don’t fully understand. As an aside, when I lived in New Orleans, you had to do U-turns all the time. I mean all the time. Any directions that you were given included one. It is just how the city is set up. However, every time they come to Georgia, they get a ticket for doing it. This is an example of how different people do things differently could cause accidents.
What to do if you were in one of these car accidents in Atlanta, Decatur, or anywhere in Georgia?
- seek medical treatment
- follow doctor’s orders
- contact a personal injury lawyer if you were hurt
- don’t sign any thing with the insurance company
- don’t give any statements to the insurance company
- let your attorney handle everything
- get better
- settle your case or go to trial
Everyone thinks they can do anything. I fully agree. If you can figure out each step to take, figure out how to successfully accomplish each step, stay on it until it is done, have alternate routes, and not be negative, you can do anything. So, theorecially, you can handle your own case. If you have read this far into this post, you may have it. But, why? If it is about the money, a lawyer is almost sure to get you more. Is it about hating lawyers? Insurance companies and lobbyist have done a great job at sliming the industry. Don’t believe them. If it is about you being super smart, you should put braces on your daughter’s teeth or cut your wife’s hair or pull your teeth. All of things are also within your capacity. I am joking of course. A stitch in time saves nine. Call me as your personal injury lawyer.
